Queer Leiden University Board Recruitment August 2026

We are pleased to announce that applications for the first term of the QLU Board 2026-2027 are now officially open!

We are a team of passionate and caring people, looking for new humans to join us in achieving our mission: to connect, support, enact (institutional) change, and build (intersectional) bridges in and for our community. We aim to do this through our safer space events and imagining, creating, and sharing resources and tools.

Specifically, we are looking for:

  • Event Coordinators - You will support and connect our community through organizing community events or facilitating members of the QLU community to organise events under the umbrella of QLU. Our current event coordinators organized the last fundraiser for Sudan and Open Mic, study sessions during midterms and finals, crafty and art events, movie screenings, hungouts and much more!
  • External Communicator - You will be in charge of the QLU email, making sure that we reply in a timely manner to our associates and community members.
  • Social Media Manager - You will work on our social media activity, manage the Instagram and Linktree accounts, as well as create the visuals for our posts.
  • Secretary - Your portfolio includes keeping track of all tasks that need to be done, keeping meeting notes, and informing the board of the agenda of upcoming meetings.
  • Treasurer - You will be managing the finances of QLU, as well as keep looking into new opportunities for funding.

Does that sound like something you would like to be involved in? Do you have other ideas of project and events? We warmly invite you to apply to be part of our team!

Here is how the application process goes:

We want to try to make the application process more flexible and personal -and less scary.

Why? Because we want to practice the world we want in the future: starting now. A more flexible application process means that, hopefully, more people feel comfortable applying, we know that applications can be overwhelming!

What does that mean practically? We want to accommodate whatever kind of application you think will best reflect who you are and however you feel comfortable applying. We have provided some questions for those of you who prefer some structure, you can answer them via this form, but you can also apply by uploading a video or a voice message in the dedicated section. You can answer as many of the questions as you want.

And what's next? We will invite everyone who applied to either an online or in-person chat. This will be a chance for us to get to know each other, and see if and where you fit in the team. This will not be a formal interview, but rather a casual conversation, so we can get to know each other!

If you have any questions, please send us an email at queerleidenuniversity@gmail.com, or send us a DM on Instagram @queerleidenuniversity.

Now, on to some practical information:

  • Term duration: September 2026 to January 2027 (of course, you can stay in the team longer if you wish)
  • Volunteer work (around 6h per week: 2-3 hours for the weekly meetings, 3 hours at your own time from home. However, this is also flexible)
  • Presence is required in Leiden or The Hague for weekly meetings (unless not possible for reasons you communicate in time)
  • You do not have to be a student (or a student at Leiden University) to apply.
  • No prior experience is needed.
  • Due to the current configuration of the team, we prioritize BIPOC, gender-non-conforming, and  neurodivergent people
